Just over a month ago, I wrote a post about my favorite sunsets I’ve seen from my travels around the world. Since that post, I found it natural to write a follow-up in which I list some of my favorite sunrises I’ve encountered in the places I’ve been to. I’ve discovered so much beauty in waking up early in the morning, as means of capturing the gradual, but radiant glow that promises the hopeful start to a fulfilling day.
With that said, here are my top picks!
10 Favorite Sunrises From Around the World
1. Panama City, Panama
2. Cappadocia, Turkey
Lighting up before the 5am flight (June 2019).
3. Marbella, Spain
4. Lyon, France
5. Valletta, Malta
Along the harbor (November 2018).
6. Milan, Italy
Before the lights turn off in front of the Duomo di Milano (April 2019).
7. Blarney Castle, Ireland
8. Sahara Desert, Morocco
9. Los Angeles, California, USA
Sunrise before work (September 2020).
10. Somewhere between Munich and Lyon
Flight on my way back to Lyon from Munich (December 2017).
What are YOUR favorite sunrises in the world? Let me know!

You visited so many places, it’s impressive.

The hot-air balloon ride in Turkey was one of the most-memorable moments during my travels. Hope to visit more beautiful places someday!

The shot with the camels is lovely and the whole sunrise collection is very beautiful! I’ve always found sunrise photos much more difficult to shoot.

Sunrise can be difficult, even for early birds (like myself). But the effort to wake up before the sun just to capture it is all the more rewarding!

These are so pretty. I love the idea of you flying up in a balloon over Cappadocia 🤩 That must have been a once in a lifetime experience.

It really was a worthwhile experience (although the crash landing at the end shook me)! I hope to do similar flights in the future, should we travel again!

I like the architecture of Milan in the dim morning light. It is true that at dawn there is a greater transparency of the air than in the evening, also the glittering dew that may bring another richness to the low-angled light of the sun.

Yes, the transparency is there in the morning, before the pollution takes over later in the day. The photo of Milan was one I took just before leaving the city, and it’s turned out to be one of my favorites! Merci pour ton commentaire. 😊

All of them are beautiful, but the camel one is definitely my favourite. I can’t wait to visit the Sahara one day! 🙂

What a collection. I’m not an early riser but I recall one time in Yellowstone getting up around 4 am to get an early start and the sunrise that followed was quite nice. My most spectacular sunrises have been spotted in my home town after dropping kids at school.

I actually am an early bird, so I don’t mind waking up early to catch a worthy sunrise! I can imagine a Yellowstone sunrise is gorgeous, and even the ones closer to home can be just as lovely, too.

I thought the Maldives was going to give me the best sunsets, but I was always on the wrong side of the island to see it properly. 😂 My favourites are still Jamaica and the desert southwest.

The US Southwest is STUNNING with their sunrises. Never been to Jamaica, but I’ll have to go someday for that! 🙂

You really should! I have property there and would love to plan a camping trip. It has a river and everything. I’ll have to visit and get a good look at it though. I’ve never been. Grandma gave it to me the day before I left Jamaica for good.

I’m an early riser, so I don’t mind! If the place is known for its sunrises, you bet I’ll wake up early to capture it!

you did that balloon ride in Turkey? wow! beautiful sunrises, I don’t know which one would I pick as my favourite

Yes! It was sort of a last-minute thing (i.e. we paid for the ride at the last minute), but no regrets! Honesty, all sunrises are considered beautiful, no matter where you are. 😊

Fantastic sunrise photos! We’ve tried our luck for some dramatic sunrise shots but fate gave us clouds every time. My favorite photo was the one in Turkey. I hope we can go there too.

To be fair, it was a cloudy day in Turkey when I took the photo. But it’s the experience of going up on the hot-air balloon ride that made it a magical hour all the same!

Ahah ! My favorite is Lyon, of course, since I come from there 😉 Though the sunrises in Shanghai, seen from the Bund, were also pretty impressive. I also have very nice memories from sunrises in Varanasi, India. It’s even better when you see it from a boat on the Ganga river.

Lyon’s sunrise is truly magical, especially from the Fourvière…I visited Shanghai about 10 years ago and visited the Bund, but I never woke up early enough to catch the sunrise. Looks like I’ll have to return to do so! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
